Therapy

Creative psychotherapy for children,

young people, parents and carers.

About Therapy

Sometimes life can be challenging, perhaps due to

  • emotions that can feel dysregulating

  • difficulty managing day to day activities

  • anxieties around daily life or upcoming changes

  • challenges at school

  • feeling low or depressed

  • struggles with self worth and esteem

  • separation of parents or death of a loved one

When things are out of balance it can really help to have a therapeutic space to process feelings and experiences. Therapy can really support you towards a sense of balance, integration and a more positive sense of self.

Each person is different in how therapy works best to support your wellbeing. Children often work therapeutically through play and I accompany them on their journey, drawing extensively from a wide range of tools. We may use drawing, painting, a sand tray with little figures, puppets, clay, drama, music or other creative approaches to help facilitate therapy.  Adolescents often prefer just to talk or use images, cards, music or drawing.

Please do get in touch and we can see what support might be best for you, your child or young person.

About me

Over the last twenty years I have worked across a number of private and mainstream settings with children and adolescents, ranging from nursery and primary schools to special needs schools.  I orginally trained as a Primary School Teacher, before undertaking post-graduate studies in

  • Counselling Children and Adolescents

  • the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts

  • Masters in Child Psychotherapy (a four year training).

As a qualified Integrative Child Psychotherapist I have been rigourously trained and assessed in various modalities from counselling and psychotherapy, psychiatry, infant and child development theories including attachment and development in relation with others, interpersonal neurobiology and the latest understanding in neuroscience and body-mind-brain integration. I have trained with some of the leading world experts in therapeutic work, in particular Dan Hughes in PACE and DDP approaches.  An integrative training provides me with a varied toolkit I can draw upon to tailor therapy to suit each client.

In my private practice I see children and young people up to 18 years old.  Alongside my private practice I also work for an Independent Fostering agency providing clinical support, reflective practice and supervision and work with an organsiation providing psychotherapy for children and adolescents (often in schools) who have been referred by Dorset Social Care teams or other agencies.

I am a member of both UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and IATE (Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education) and adhere to their stringent professional and ethical guidelines for working therapeutically. I hold an enhanced DBS (Discolsure and Barring Services) certificate, adhere to GDPR and regularly attend safeguarding training.

I am Celine Allder,

an Integrative Child

Psychotherapist (MA).

Services

I see children and young people of all ages up to eighteen years old.  After an initial consultation I usually recommend three sessions so that I can assess what will be the best pathway forward. If you or your young person is over eighteen, please contact me to discuss whether I might be able to support you.

Sometimes it can really help to discuss the worries or challenges that you may be facing as a parent or carer.  It may be that there are ways I can support you in your parenting role without your child needing to attend therapy. Alternatively, it may be that parent-child sessions together may be useful and we can discuss this option at our initial consultaion.

If at any time I feel there needs to be a referral to other mental health professionals, for example CAMHS, I will support you through this process. .
